CSA or Co-Op?
CSAs are offered by farms where subscribers receive a weekly or
monthly basket of produce, fruits, eggs, flowers, milk or other products.
Subscribers form a personal relationship with the farm and become
“members” of the CSA. The farm, in turn, receives a financial commitment
from its members. Some CSAs bill weekly, monthly or ask for a payment up-front for the season.
Food cooperatives (co-op) are worker- or customer-owned businesses
that can take the shape of retail stores or buying clubs. Co-ops offer
farm-fresh produce, vegetables, meat and dairy products and typically
support local farms by selling products direct from local farms.
